Susquehanna Community High School’s drama department selected the Broadway musical “Grease” for its spring production on May 3-4.

With a cast of seasoned actors, director Teresa Marino gave the “standing room only” audience a modified school version of this ever popular musical. For this production, the band was made up of Jeffrey Keyes, Ray Polak, Shirlynne Wademan, Scott Zimmerman and Derek Case.

This presentation, minus the many technical difficulties that plagued the fall offering of “M*A*S*H,” once again saw senior Lindsey Glidden playing a lead role as Sandy, a love interest opposite a Hansen brother, only this time it was Coleman Hansen as Danny and not older brother, David who graduated in 2012.

A memorable scene between Danny and Sandy was when the two were sitting in the car named Greased Lightning, watching a drive-in movie, Danny’s attempt at intimacy causes Sandy to leave the car with Danny reaching for her. Slamming the car door caught Danny by surprise and the pained look on his face left no doubt in the audiences’ mind the damage done by the door.

Faculty member Hannah Taylor was very convincing as the old maid English teacher who opened the performances with Clayton Hansen, playing the school nerd, Eugene (complete with bow tie) and Jessi Staros as Patty. Other noticeable performances of both “Pink Ladies” and “Burger Palace Boys” were by Lauren Marco as Rizzo; Kayla Marino, Kayleigh Smith, Danny Staros, Jack DeLaPlaine, Nick Acosta, Johnny Felter, Olivia Rockwell and Saige Perry. Sal Pelicci made his entrance by sauntering across the stage as the suave and debonair radio personality Vince Fontaine with Joe DeLaPlaine as Johnny Casino, an Elvis look alike.

Among the long list of people thanked for their contributions to the show was Jack Agler who was responsible for getting “Greased Lightning” on stage.

A school board member reported on Saturday that people arrived at the school more than an hour before the curtain went up and 30 people were turned away at the door.

There was also a full house Friday night.
