At 11 a.m. on November 11, members of American Legion, Post 86 conducted a Veteran’s Day memorial ceremony, opened with a prayer by Chaplain Stan Lindow.
Others taking part were Commander Rich Brinton, Past Commander Scott Darling and Auxiliary President Linda Norris.
Standing at attention in observance of the moment of reverence for all those who fought in quest for an honorable world peace were: Joseph Bucci; James Wood; Elson Stone; and Thomas Hurley.
Members of Boy Scout Troop 81 also joined the large number of people who gathered at the Service Board to take a few minutes to honor those who served their country.
Chaplain Lindow thanked God for the victories that had been granted to our country and those who united with us to stamp out the evils of aggression, intolerance and greed. He asked God to bring the blessings of understanding to the families and friends of those who have given their lives that men may be free. He concluded his part in the ceremony by asking for continued blessings upon unity and strength that makes victories possible in war, that we may win greater victories of peace.
Auxiliary President Norris said that the fighting forces begin at the fireside and in the hometowns. The brutality of war have chilled the hearts and dimmed the hopes and dreams of many a loved one left behind on the home front. We have lived with loneliness created to answer an aggressor’s challenge, she added. there is need for unity of purpose if we are to move toward a brighter tomorrow, she concluded.
Commander Brinton reminded everyone that in peace we shall go forward together to scale new heights of achievement in unity of purpose, in sacrifice for the common good, in tolerance of those in different faiths and creeds and to fight for social and economic gains. He said that we shall move forward in the sight of God as a strong nation in a peaceful world.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, those attending were invited to join the Legion members for a fellowship lunch, served by Auxiliary members, at the American Legion Post on Main Street, Susquehanna.
