Burgh sinks five 3-pointers in Montrose win over Eagles

Erik Burgh had a fantastic night for the Meteors by scoring the first of his five 3-pointers of the night in the first quarter of the Thursday, Feb. 6 game against Mountain View.

The first quarter was all about Montrose who outscored Mt. View 14-2 with Derek Bradley scoring the sole basket for the Eagles.

Austin Smith also scored a 3-pointer for Montrose. Brenton Warner scored four points, Cameron Dean scored two and Burgh put in another basket for the Meteors who seemed to be on fire throughout the game.

Mountain View fared better the second quarter and were able to score 12 points with baskets made by Brandon Hawm, Ryan Lavin, Deon Faramelli, Brett Crowley, and Nick Shermerhorn.

It was a big improvement for the Eagles over the first quarter, but the Meteors improved their scoring dramatically as well adding 23 points to the scoreboard with Burgh and Smith each dropping in another 3-pointer each, Warner adding in six points, Burgh another four as did Frank Fruehan, and Dean with one more basket to bring the half time score to 37-14 in favor of Montrose.

The Eagles improved their scoring tally once more in the third quarter with Chad Wescott sinking a 3-pointer, Hawm adding four more points, Faramelli had three points, Lavin and Crowley each scored a basket and Bradley added one from the foul line to give Mt. View their best quarter of the night with 15 points.

The Meteors did not slow down. Burgh put in two more 3-pointers, Fruehan scored another basket, and Dean came on strong adding 12 points to his stats for the night to give Montrose a 57-29 lead at the end of the third.

In the fourth quarter Mt. View outscored Montrose, who gave their starters a rest and brought in players off the bench. Cody Hollister, Jesse Gerfin, and Tyler Salak all scored baskets, Lavin added six points and Schermerhorn downed two from the foul line to give the Eagles 14 points and outscore the Meteors by three points in the final quarter.

Burgh scored his fifth 3-pointer plus another basket, Mason Peck, and Todd Lattimore each scored a basket for Montrose and Lattimore went two for two from the foul line to give the Meteors 11 points and a final score of 68-43 over Mt.View.

Hawm was the high scorer for Mt. View with eight points.

Burgh led the scoring for Montrose with 23 points, followed by Dean with 16 and Warner with 10.
