Susquehanna hires new high school principal

In a 5-4 vote, the Susquehanna Community School Board hired a new principal for the 2014-15 school year.

Carmilla Bullick of Lakewood, carried the vote following an executive session held by the board.

Bullick is presently employed at Hancock, Central School in New York. Voting in favor of Bullick were: Steven Stanford, Clay Weaver, Jason Chamberlain, Carol Jackson and Amanda Cook.

Board members Evelyn Cottrell, Lori Canfield, Holly Kubus and Martha Stanford voted in favor of hiring Lawrence Tompkins of Susquehanna.

The board also passed a tentative district budget of $15,543,589 at their meeting on Wednesday, May 21.

The budget was balanced with no increase in the millage by the district’s move to not replace retirees and making some positions part-time.

According to Superintendent Bronson Stone, the budget is the largest in the history of the district because the district will pay off the district’s debt during the 2014/15 fiscal year.

The board approved the hiring of: Ellen Rockwell and Bridgette McKennas as Extended School Year teachers; Jamie Bollinger, Rose DeCicco, Susan Day and Thomas Adornato for Summer School; Shirley Decker, RN, one day a week for the upcoming school year; Michael Matis, summer Industrial Arts maintenance.
The board accepted the resignation of Carly Batzel, Student Council Advisor; Kim Legg. Girls Basketball Coach; Carol Bushong, SADD Advisor; Danielle Dibble, High School Aide.

Gina Baker will be transferred from the Junior High Girls basketball co-coaching position to the coaching position.

Director Martha Stanford was elected board treasurer for a one year term. Peoples Security Bank was approved as a depository for the districts funds. Attorney Joseph Gaughan was appointed district solicitor, one year.

The service agreement between the district and Lanesboro for campus safety and sedurity for one year was approved. Craige’s Photique will be the school photographer for the upcoming school year.
