Points race tightens as season winds down

Penn Can Speedway was forced to cancel racing Friday because of the heavy rain that moved through the area Thursday and the prediction of more to follow Friday. Racing will resume this wee, Friday, Aug. 29, with a full slate of racing featuring modifieds, 602 sportman, street stocks, factory stocks, four cylinders, and Xcel 600 modifieds.

“The entire facility is saturated,” explained Reed Miller. “With a very unpromising afternoon forecast, we made the decision to cancel racing for this week. We really wanted to get this show in because the CRSA Sprints are very popular at the speedway.”

With only two point races left on the schedule the points are close in many of the divisions. The modified point race is as close as it can get. Billy Thornton, Alan Rudalavage, and Kevin Hartnett are only separated by a five points in the modified division. Nick Rochinski, Dan Pompey, Brian Malcolm, and Joey Colsten are still in contention for the title as well.

In the 602 sportsman division Ryan Olsommer Dusty Barton holds a lead over Brian Mady and Paul Rooney.
Steve Dienhardt leads the street stocks over Ryan Stone and Shane Wolf.

Eric Beach leads the points in factory stock racing with Don Doster Jr and Dylan Robinson tied on top of the four cylinders. Will Eastman is the top man in Xcel 600 points.
