Lady Raiders sweeps match with Mt. View

Blue Ridge swept the Lady Eagles, 3-0, on their home court Wednesday, Sept. 3.

The Raider girls readily handed Mountain View a loss in the first match, 25-7; but Mountain View rallied in the second match, taking an early points lead with Sabrina Fallon at the service line.

A turnover put Blue Ridge’s Kristine Carlson in control at the line. The Lady Raiders mounted a comeback and shut down the Eagles’ early match rally, 25-16.

Blue Ridge went on to take the third round, 25-9.

Carlson, a second team all-star last season, had 12 aces and 30 points.

Megan Houlihan had 10 kills and Kathleen Kempa, a first team Lackawanna League All-Star setter last year, had 13 assists.

Sabrina Fallon scored 10 points for Mountain View. Fallon was a second team all-star last season.

At Forest City, on Friday, Sept. 5, Hayleigh Fekette had 10 service points and 15 digs; Megan Houlihan registered nine kills and seven digs; and Kristine Carlson added 20 service points and six aces to lead Blue Ridge to a 3-1 Lackawanna League win over the Lady Foresters.

Caitlyn Bonham had six service points and 43 sets, and Courtney Daniels added eight kills and 13 digs for Forest City.

The Lady Meteors pulled out a hard-fought 3-2 win over the Lady Foresters at Montrose on Tuesday, Sept. 2, with the second match going into points to decide the match. Montrose emerged from the second match victorious with a 28-26 score.

Megan Dunne had 10 kills and Emily Stankiewicz and Lacy Nealy each had nine assists to lead Montrose.

Zoe Zazzera had 36 digs, Caitlin Bonham had 20 service points and seven aces and Solana Stratford had six kills for Forest City.

Dunmore shut out Montrose, 3-0, on Wednesday, Sept. 3.

Megan Dunne had five digs for Montrose.

Montrose fell 25-6 in the first two matches; and 25-16 in the third match.

Elk Lake fell 3-0 in games against Western Wayne and Abington Heights last week.

Against Abington Heights, Mikayla Parrett had five points for Elk Lake.

Nicole Barnes had six points and 19 digs for Susquehanna and Felicia Hines had 11 points and nine digs.

In Monday (Sept. 9) volleyball action, Blue Ridge, Susquehanna and Forest City picked up wins.

For the Lady Raiders, Megan Houlihan had 11 kills and Katherine Kempa had 21 assists, five aces and 16 points to lead Blue Ridge to a 3-1 win over Lackawanna Trail in a Lackawanna League match.

Kristine Carlson had five kills, seven aces and 13 points for the Lady Raiders and Kimberly Klim had five kills and 13 points.

At Susquehanna, Anna Smith, Nicole Barnes and Felicia Hines all had 12 points to lead Susquehanna to a three-game sweep.

Smith also had 10 kills for the Lady Sabers. Barnes added 16 assists and 12 digs and Hines chipped in 10 digs.

For Mountain View, Rebecca Tiffany had seven digs, five points, Leanna Allen had seven assists and Sabrina Fallon had 10 digs and six points.

At Elk Lake, Kendra Bendyk had 12 points, eight kills and 32 digs and Courtney Daniels had 11 points, five aces, eight kills and 37 digs to lead Forest City.

Solana Stratford had 10 points and 18 assists for the Lady Foresters.

Mikayla Parrett had 13 kills for Elk Lake and Lauren Vermulen had 14 assists and 12 points.
