Despite seven fumbles and four turnovers, Carbondale grinded out a 19-6 victory on Montrose’s home turf.
The Chargers struck first, piecing together a touchdown drive near the end of the first quarter.

The Meteors answered on the back of senior quarterback Patrick Parks. Parks hit senior wide receiver Jack Fruehan in stride for a 41-yard gain that put Montrose in the red zone. Three plays later, Parks shook a few tackles and bolted into the end zone with a seven-yard touchdown run to tie the score, 6-6.

After going three and out, the Chargers regained the momentum, jumping on a fumble in Montrose territory. Carbondale Area capitalized, going right back to playaction on the first play after the turnover and rumbled into the end zone for another touchdown.

The Chargers tried to open the game up in the second half, but the Montrose defense kept the Meteors in the game.

“I think defensively they’re finally starting to believe what we’re coaching them,” Montrose defensive coordinator Eric Nichols said. “We had our backs up against the wall and came up with a lot of big stops.”
