Blue Ridge approves preliminary budget

The Blue Ridge school board approved the district’s 2015-16 preliminary budget at its Tuesday, April 7 meeting.

District property owners will see no increase in taxes with the proposed $17 million budget.
Other items approved by the board included:

*the 2015 Summer Adventures program;
*purchase of a full page advertisement in the Harford Fair premium book at a cost of $140;
*Donation funds in the amount of $2,500 were released to Blue Ridge Recreation Inc.
*Murphy, Dougherty & Co. as the independent auditors for the district through the June 30, 2020;
*NEIU #19 special education budget, as well as we the contract for special education services with the NEIU;
*Bleacher replacement project in the high school gymnasium;
*Athletic volunteers: Dan Allen, volleyball; Shannon Birtch, softball; Henry Glover, softball; James Schell, softball; Sandra Marvin, softball;
*30-day review of board policies on use of medications; child abuse; transportation video/audio recording; and fundraising;
*Ronald Cranage approved as maintenance supervisor, effective June 1.

The board also accepted with regret the resignation for purpose of retirement from Judith McKee, school nurse, effective June 30.

The board also approved resolutions calling for reform of cyber charter schools, urging the general assembly to establish a new funding formula for basic education; and urging legislative action on school employee pension reform.

The board will hold a workshop meeting, April 27, 7 p.m., in the elementary school cafeteria; and a business meeting on May 4, at 7 p.m.
