The focus was on choices at Susquehanna County Career and Tecnology Center’s graduation ceremony held Thursday on the Elk Lake campus.

Graduating seniors from seven area school districts, along with adult learners, first chose to enroll at the career center. But, said executive director Dr. Alice Davis and student speaker Kenny Brittingham, more choices lie in store for the graduates.

Dr. Davis centered her remarks on happiness and attitude. “The first step in our quest for happiness is a positive attitude,” she said. “Your attitude can greatly affect your mood and, in turn, your happiness.”

She also advised the grads to “never make a permanent decision based on a temporary storm.”

Brittingham, who was chosen by the class to deliver remarks at the ceremony, quoted Dr. Elias Zerhouni, former Director of the US National Institute of Health, who said: “You cannot put a big life in a small dream box.”

Brittingham said, “We can either let our circumstances we find ourselves in dictate our lifestyles and attitudes or we can make the best of it, and come out on top. We can choose to live big, or put it all in a small dream box.”

“I encourage you all to dream big, but make choices that eventually lead to your dreams becoming a reality,” he said.

Noah Cobb, Carpentry and Cabinetmaking program, Elk Lake, was awarded the SCCTC Student of the Year.

Ed Johnson of Erie Insurance presented Cobb with a $1,000 award.

Following graduation, Cobb plans to enter the U.S. Navy.

Brandon Ferrante, Welding Technology, was awarded a $750 scholarship.

At an awards night held last month, over $22,000 was awarded to SCCTC graduating students.

School districts sending students to SCCTC include: Blue Ridge, Elk Lake, Lackawanna Trail, Montrose, Mountain View, Susquehanna Community and Tunkhannock.
