“It is only when you step outside of your personal comfort zone that you will the most and reap the greatest rewards,” Class of 1991 Valedictorian Carrie Troup Wurpel told the 2016 Susquehanna Community graduates.
“You have a sense of comfort here at Susquehanna,” she said at the graduation ceremony held Saturday.
Wurple spoke about her climb up Mount Kilamanjaro. Although cold and windy, she said, “What you learn about yourself is what you are capable of doing. You will find out you are stronger than you imagined.”
“It doesn’t matter where you come from – a small town like Susquehanna, or a big city – it is up to you to step outside and grow,” she encouraged.
Salutatorian Nicole Sherman said, “This day marks out chance to find out who we really are.”
Valedictorian Alyssa Hubal said she has heard every one of her classmates say at least once: “I cannot wait to leave this town.”
“But over the past few years,” she continued, “every one of my classmates has had a setback that has shaped us. So I regret saying, ‘I cannot wait to leave this town.’”
She advised her fellow graduates to, “Take the opportunities you can to move forward and grow.”
