Mountain View school board accepted the resignation of Casey Webster from her Region 2 Harford/Lenox position, and authorized the board secretary to advertise for the vacancy. Letters of interest may be submitted before 2 p.m. Friday, July 8.

Superintendent Karen Voigt said that graduation was elegant and lovely, and that the class of 2016 members conducted themselves admirably.

“This was a very solid class in music, activities and academics,” she said. Taylor asked for the board’s authorization to replace the elementary school library carpeting, which is original to the building and about 25 years old. The board approved the project request.

The board approved discontinuing two student activity funds: Class of 2016 and Focus/Partial. The more than $2,000 balance in the Class of 2016 account was donated to the Yearbook Club, and the much smaller remainder in the Focus/Partial activity account was donated to Life Skills.

The board approved the C3 Human Resource Group to provide services and support to the district administration as needed. Voigt explained that this was just signing an agreement, with no money involved. She said the services this group provides include employee handbooks and consulting on OSHA matters.

Cheri DeManicor, Janet Karhnak, Katrina Anderson, and Todd Calabro were approved as volunteers.

Jessica Short was approved as a long-term 90 day substitute at a prorated salary of $41,373 retroactive to May 17 and benefits according to contract as a result of her serving in the same elementary school position for more than 90 days.

The athletic trainer position was vacated and will be advertised.

Anthony Borgia was approved as instructor for the Coaching Principles and First Aid course for the district coaches. His professional rate was set at $28.75 per hour. The course will be offered over the summer at a cost of $125 per coach.

There will be a presentation on playground surfaces on Thursday, June 16, regarding recycled rubber products. Taylor explained that the entire playground does not need a rubber surface, but that the area of the protective mulch is determined by the height of the particular structure.

Voigt said that she has not heard from the Susquehanna County Recreation Board regarding the recreational facility.

There was some discussion about how the closing of the bridge near Lenox will add miles and minutes to district bus routes, and the lack of efficient detours. The project is scheduled to begin on June 20 and last for 10 weeks.

A cleaning out of classrooms and closets by Taylor and Dr. Christopher Lake has resulted in a dumpster full of obsolete books to recycle and a large donation of children’s books to the Harford Historical Society.

Lake noted that the three English as a Second Language (ESL) students in the district performed exceptionally well on their exams, and thanked Mrs. McNab and Mrs. Munley for their work.
