The Lackawanna League Volleyball season made its final turn and headed to the home stretch
with league play finishing on Monday and Tuesday. Blue Ridge, standing at 13-1 headed into Monday night’s matches with a chance for a league title still in grasp if they could get some help.
The Lady Raiders picked up a pair of sweeps first decimating Lackawanna Trail on Oct. 14
and then thrashing through Forest City two days later.
Lyndee Barbour led the way against Trail serving 16 points including six aces and registering
eight kills. She got support from Abigail Gelinger who finished with nine kills and four digs while Emily Gorham added sevin kills and four aces. Makenzie Zick contributed 23 assists and Layla Sinnett had nine service points with six aces and four digs.
In the 3-0 win over Forest City, Barbour continued to shine with her serve picking up 22 points
and five aces while adding four kills. Gelinger patrolled the nets for nine kills and two blocks and Gorham added six kills and three aces. Zick set the table with 23 assists and contributed three digs.
For the Lady Foresters, Ella Casper had five points, an ace, and one kill and block. Anithyst Kealoha-Silva had an ace among her three points and Makayla Zaveri had five points and three
kills and assists.
Elk Lake also had a solid week collecting two sweeps as they took down a hot Lakeland team
and kept Forest City winless. Addi Azaravich led the way against Lakeland with 10 kills while Maddy Ely set things up with 20 assists and six kills of her own. Sally Farrell led the defense with 12 digs and chipped in five kills while Aleece Greenley had nine digs and six kills.
Ely paced the Lady Warriors against Forest City with 15 assists and eight kills. Greenley added
another nine kills and Farrell had four aces. The Lady Foresters were led by Kealoha-Silva who had seven points including four aces while Casper and Ashleigh Arneese each had three service points.
Mountain View earned the split on the week on a pair of 3-1 matches. On Oct. 16, the Lady Eagles got the win over Susquehanna 3-1 as Addison Kilmer delivered 21 kills and eight blocks while adding nine digs and six assists. Aubrey Sanders had 37 assists and 10 kills and served three aces and Karley Norton added 25 kills and nine digs. Abbie Mitchell chipped in with six digs and three aces.
Susquehanna was led by Camryn Sellitto who had 12 digs -including the 500th of her career
and also added six kills. Adrianna Rockwell had 10 digs and four blocks and served five aces. Lauren Huyck added 20 assists and six kills and Leah Roe contributed seven kills, three blocks,
and four digs.
Against Western Wayne, Mountain View took the first game 25-23 but the Lady Wildcats
recovered to win the next three and prevail 3-1.
For the Lady Eagles, Sanders had 19 assists and six digs while Kilmer added 12 kills and three
blocks and six digs. Norton added 11 kills and five digs, while Mitchell contributed four digs and
blocks. Addison Tompkins chipped in with eight digs.
Dunmore delivered a 3-1 defeat to Montrose taking the final two games after the teams split the
opening pair. The Lady Meteors got 16 kills from Sadie Jones who also had four blocks while Molly Weller finished nine kills and seven blocks and served 10 points. Gracie Jones set the table with 25 assists and also had 10 service points and Kirsten Eschback added 14 digs and seven kills.
