Council, solicitor discuss possible legal issue

New Milford borough’s solicitor Michael Briechle met with the council Feb. 3 in an executive session to discuss a possible legal issue. No further information was given about any potential litigation.

Following the session, council reconvened the meeting hearing from former borough solicitor and now district judge candidate Jodi Cordner; and representatives from the Susquehanna County Housing and Redevelopment Authority regarding a proposed low income, elderly apartment project at the site of the former Southern Tier Plastics building on Church St.

Council adopted an update to the borough’s employee policy and benefit manual.

John Abbott was hired as a back-up plow operator in the borough on an as-needed basis.

Council members Sue Abbott and Penny Scarborough said they will be looking into grant opportunities for a sidewalk project.

Borough resident Eleanor Lempke asked if there was an ordinance for sidewalk shoveling.

An ordinance does exist, said Amy Hine, borough secretary. But, she added, it was adopted many years ago.

Council president Jim Carr said he didn’t know how people could be made to comply with it.

Council plans to look into the ordinance that addresses sidewalk shoveling.

Hometown Day in New Milford was scheduled for June 4.
