Members of the Susquehanna Community School District board received the district’s 2010 report card at the Sept. 15 board meeting.
Superintendent Bronson Stone told the board the district has been given Adequate Yearly Progress status for the eighth consecutive year. The board accepted the 2010 report card as presented.
Stone said the beginning of school year assessment has been completed with an apparent reduction in student skills.
A percentage based grade to 4 point scale grade conversion table was approved. According to Stone, the 4-point grade scale is needed for many college applications.
The board approved teachers Richard Emmons and Andrea Sanders for tenure. They also approved the transportation drivers and those on the substitute list.
Jill Holleran was granted a 45-day leave beginning Oct. 12. Ingrid Hower was hired to fill the 45-day elementary teacher position.
The board approved hiring the following: Dawn Allen as elementary aide; coordinator positions for after school tutoring will be filled by Carolyn Homer, Debra Stone and Jennifer Rockwell.
Daniel Maurer and Stephen Nayduch will fill after school tutor openings. Filling scorer/timer/ticket taker positions are Jennifer Lawson, Ray Testa, Jr., Richard Emmons, Lawrence Tompkins. Justine Ord, William Szili, Debra Benson, Debra White, Robin Carmody and Carol Bushong.
Volunteers approved were Fran Lipshutz for life skills and autistic support class and Shawna Alleman for marching band. The board accepted the resignation of Dennise Yankauskas from the junior high’s basketball coach position.
Among the requests approved: Penn State Cooperative Extension’s request for elementary classrooms for a 2-day parenting class, October 14 and 21.
Saber’s Booster club asked permission to add an overhang to the back of the food booth. This was granted along with adding third and fourth grade boys to the elementary basketball program. And, the girls softball program request for use of the high school gym on every other Sunday for two hours was also approved
