Lake
The Elk Lake boys’ and girls’ cross country teams locked up the Lackawanna League Championship with a pair of victories each on Tuesday at home.
Both teams finish out the year 22-0 as the boys’ team defeated Holy Cross 15-41 and Scranton Prep 15-40, and the girls’ team downed Holy Cross 15-50 and Scranton Prep 20-41.
Mike Bedell took first place overall on the boys’ side at 16:32, while the top female finisher was Elizabeth Trowbridge, who took second place at 18:52.
On the boys’ side, other top finishers included Luke Jones in second at 16:33, Jeff Horvath in third at 16:47, Will Bennett in fourth at 16:50 and Sean Carney in fifth at 16:53.
On the girls’ side, behind Trowbridge was Kirsten Hollister in fourth place at 19:53, Maria Trowbridge in fifth place at 19:54, Lainey Bedell in seventh place at 20:29, Emily Williams in eighth place at 20:31, Abby Zdancewicz in 10th place at 20:59 and Cassie Salsman in 12th at 21:39.
In junior high action, the boys’ team defeated Holy Cross 24-31 and Scranton Prep 15-50, while the girls’ team topped Holy Cross 22-33 and Scranton Prep 23-32 as Jenny VanEtten took first at 11:46.
Blue Ridge
Blue Ridge’s boys’ and girls’ cross country teams took a pair of losses at Elk Lake on Wednesday afternoon.
Blue Ridge’s boys were defeated 23-34 by Holy Cross and 24-37 by Scranton Prep while the girls’ team took 15-50 losses to Holy Cross and Scranton Prep.
Topping on the boys’ side was Jake Hinkley, who finished in sixth place at 16:54, while teammate Mike Robbs finished in 11th place at 17:32.
On the girls’ side, Allison Hall took sixth place at 19:57 to top for the Raiders.
In junior high action, Blue Ridge’s boys’ team took at 15-50 loss from Holy Cross while the girls’ team lost 25-31 to Holy Cross and 23-35 to Scranton Prep.
Montrose
Montrose’s boys’ and girls’ cross country teams took losses at Elk Lake on Wednesday afternoon.
The Meteor boys faced a 16-44 loss to Holy Cross and a 15-50 loss to Scranton Prep, while the girls’ team lost 24-31 to Holy Cross and 22-35 to Scranton Prep.
The Meteor girls were topped by Samantha Benicci, who finished in third place overall at 19:42. Teammate Allison Lewis took 13th place overall at 21:43.
In junior high action, the Montrose girls faced a 23-36 loss to Scranton Prep and a 26-33 loss to Holy Cross while the boys’ team defeated Scranton Prep 15-50 and lost to Holy Cross 19-42.
Mountain View
Mountain View’s boys’ and girls’ cross country teams faced three losses apiece on Tuesday afternoon.
The girls lost 15-50 to Abington Heights, Valley View and North Pocono while the boys took an 18-43 loss from North Pocono, a 15-46 loss from Valley View and a 15-47 loss from Abington Heights.
Leading the girls’ team was Kelly Purdy, who took 13th place overall with a 22:53.
In junior high action, Mountain View’s boys’ and girls’ teams all took 15-50 losses from North Pocono, Valley View and Abington Heights.
Susquehanna
The Susquehanna boys’ and girls’ cross country teams each took losses on Tuesday afternoon.
Susquehanna’s boys’ team took 15-50 losses from North Pocono, Valley View and Abington Heights while the girls’ team faced 15-50 losses from Valley View and Abington.
However, in junior high action, Saber Ivy Christensen topped the girls’ race in first place at 12:25 as the team took a 19-38 win over Valley View and a 21-37 win over Abington. The Lady Sabers faced a 26-31 loss to North Pocono.
Susquehanna’s junior high boys faced a 19-42 loss to Valley View and 15-50 losses to North Pocono and Abington Heights.
Forest City
Forest City’s boys’ cross country team faced losses at a meet held at Western Wayne on Tuesday.
The Forester boys’ team took 15-50 losses from Scranton, West Scranton and Mid Valley at the meet.
The team was led by Matt Terry, who finished in 11th place overall at 18:53.
In junior high action, Forest City’s boys were handed 15-50 losses from West Scranton and Mid Valley.
