Being an injured athlete can affect the performance of the athlete and the whole team, overall. But, for MAHS senior Ethan Jones, his injuries haven’t slowed him down.

Son of Tamsen and David Jones of Brackney, Jones was named MAHS Athlete of the Week because of his dedication to the team, according to varsity football coach Jack Keihl.

“He has fought through a couple of injuries this year and is the leading rusher on our team,” Coach Keihl said.

Having played football for 11 years, Jones has become a leader on the Meteor team even with his injuries.

“My kneecap is hurt and my MCL (medial collateral ligament located in the knee) is strained,” Jones said. “I work harder than usual to get up to normal.”

Jones has special exercises he has to do on occasions, according to Jones.

“If it bothers me, I just let it rest,” Jones said.

Being a team captain, Jones is a two year starter on offense as a running back and a three year starter on defense as a linebacker, according to Coach Keihl.

This year, Jones has pushed through to a solid finish of the football season.

“[This season, I have had] 687 yards and three touchdowns,” Jones said.

Being the leading rusher on the team, Coach Keihl thinks Ethan has what it takes to be a great football player.

“Ethan is a natural athlete– strong and fast–two qualities necessary to be a great football player,” Coach Keihl said.

Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Doug and Cindy Lattner, owners of McDonald’s in Montrose.
