A group of Susquehanna Community and Blue Ridge High School students are planning to participate in a 7-day science field trip to Costa Rica next June. A group of students from Susquehanna Community and Blue Ridge High Schools are planning to travel to Costa Rica for a 7-day educational science program next June.
The trip, planned for June 12-18, also includes a student from North Pocona School District, and will focus on the biodiversity and beauty of Costa Rica rainforest.
According to SCHS science teacher Carley Batzel, the students will travel to San Jose, Aremal Volcano, Trimbina and Monteverde where they will participate in a bat study, white water rafting on the Sarapique River, zip-line through the cloud forest and learn from local residents how to prepare a sampling of meal items.
They will explore the rainforest looking for monkeys, sloths and other flora and fauna.
Batzel said the trip promises to be memorable for all those going on this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for students. “This is an incrediable opportunity for the students to see ecosystems and cultures different from our own and experience science in the field,” she said. The name of this local adventure seeking group is Susquehanna Eco-Adventures, SEA.
Bi-annual trips to Costa Rica and the Florida Keys in alternating years are also being planned by SEA.
The trip is coordinated by WorldStrides, the nation’s oldest and largest provider of student educational travel and offers credits in environmental science for the students taking advantage of this opportunity.
Assisting Batzel with planning the fund raising for the trip and also planning to travel with the stuidents are Dave and Lori Passetti, Karen Armitage and Terry MacDonald.

Several fund-raising efforts are already underway and the committee asks for support for this educational trip being planned for interested students from Susquehanna and Blue Ridge.
