District 2 playoffs on tap

Three area boys’ basketball teams and four girls’ teams remain in contention for the PIAA District II title in their respective classes, while wrestlers from the county will hit the mats on Friday and divers will take to the pool on Saturday.

Boys’ Basketball

In boys’ Class A action, the boys from Forest City will travel to Pittston Area to take on St. Michael’s School at 6 p.m. on Friday evening.

Susquehanna will face Freeland MMI on Tuesday, Mar. 1, in the Class A semifinals at a time and location to be determined.

In Class AA action, Montrose played Mid Valley on Monday night to decide who will face the winner of the Carbondale/Dunmore game on Wednesday night.

Girls’ Basketball

On Saturday, Susquehanna’s girls’ basketball team will take on Blue Ridge’s girls’ team in a Class A playoff game at Carbondale at 1 p.m. to decide who will face Forest City on Wednesday, Mar. 2, in the semifinals.

In Class AA, the Montrose Area girls’ team faced Dunmore on Tuesday night to decide the top seed. If the Meteors win they will go against the loser of the Riverside/Holy Cross game on Friday at Marywood at 6 p.m., or if they lose, will face Hanover Area at Scranton High School at 6 p.m. on Friday.

Wrestling

The District II Class AA individual wrestling championships, featuring wrestlers from Blue Ridge, Elk Lake, Montrose and Susquehanna will take place at Lake-Lehman starting on Friday at 5 p.m. with action continuing all-day Saturday starting at 11 a.m.

Admission is $6 for adults, and $4 for students.

Diving

The District II Class AA diving championship will take place at the Wilkes-Barre CYC on Saturday with Class AA action, featuring Elk Lake’s boys and girls, starting at 10 a.m.
