A Factoryville man admitted in court Friday that he attempted to rape an 11-year-old girl last summer in Susquehanna County.
Randy Steven Lawrence, 23, pleaded guilty in Susquehanna County Court to attempted rape, a first degree felony.
Lawrence could spend up to 40 years in prison for the July 5 offense that occurred in Bridgewater Township.
He was ordered to undergo a Megan’s Law evaluation. Sentencing was scheduled for May 19.
According to court documents, Lawrence was discovered locked in a room at 1:30 a.m. with the child.
The victim said Lawrence had “bumped his thing into me” and told Susquehanna County Children and Youth caseworkers that Lawrence stopped when there was a knock at the bedroom door.
At the scene, Lawrence told officers that his mother had instructed him not to talk with the police and requested a lawyer.
Lawrence was charged by State Police Trooper Greg Deck with felony counts of rape of a child and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child.
He has been held at the Susquehanna County Correctional Facility since his arrest.
