With gas prices jumping around 20 cents a gallon in the past week, motorists are experiencing a hit to their wallets each time they fuel up.

AAA reported that gas prices nationwide were up 19.6 cents to $3.375 from a week ago

As of press time, prices in Susquehanna County were ranging between $3.359 and $3.459 for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline.

According to AAA, gas prices are 67 cents above where they were at this time last year.

Lisa McVaugh, of Liberty Twp., said the price hike is changing the way her family shops.

“We’re trying to combine as many things into our trips to Binghamton and Vestal as we can – more than we did,” McVaugh said.

She also said the price increase will not only affect her family’s driving but also impacts her home heating costs.

McVaugh said, “We told our girls to get ready to wear layers, because if the heating costs keep going up that’s where we will be.”
