Unpaid county taxes turned over for collection

BY STACI WILSON

More than $760,000 in unpaid 2010 county taxes were turned over by municipal collectors to the county tax claim bureau.

The commissioners exonerated the local tax collectors from collecting the 2010 delinquent county returns at the Feb. 22 meeting.

Tax Claim Director Cathy Benedict said the 2010 delinquent county returns amount to nearly the same as in past years. She said there have been no steep increases in the amount of delinquencies turned over to the county for collection.

Commissioners Leon Allen and Michael Giangrieco were present for the meeting.

Chief Clerk Sylvia Beamer noted Commissioner Mary Ann Warren was attending a meeting with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection in State College that day.

The county commissioners meet on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month in the lower conference room of the county office building, Public Ave., Montrose. Meetings start at 9 a.m.
