Man pleads in three sex assaults

BY STACI WILSON

A Meshoppen man entered guilty pleas Wednesday in Susquehanna County Court to child sex charges lodged against him in three separate cases.

Albert Ludwig, 59, of Hibbard Road, admitted to sexually assaulting three girls in Auburn Township in different incidents.

Two of the juveniles were under the age of 16 at the time of the assaults. The other child was under the age of 13.

The cases stem from incidents in January 2004, September 2005 and Aug. 1, 2010. Charges in the three cases were filed against him Oct. 8, 2010.

Ludwig faces up to 27 years in prison on all the charges

He pleaded guilty to a felony count of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 16 in the Sept. 2005 case and it carries a maximum penalty of up to 20 years in prison.

He also pleaded guilty to a first degree misdemeanor count of indecent assault of a child under the age of 13 in a 2004 incident. That charge carries a maximum sentence of five years.

He also pleaded guilty to a second degree misdemeanor count of indecent assault in connection with a 2005 incident which carries a maximum 2-year sentence.

District Attorney Jason Legg said the Commonwealth has agreed to the sentences for the two indecent assaults to run concurrent with the felony assault charge. He also agreed to waive the 5-year minimum sentence for the felony count but said the victims would be seeking a longer sentence for the man.

President Judge Kenneth Seamans ordered Ludwig to undergo a Megan’s Law evaluation.

Prior to sentencing, Ludwig will also be evaluated by the Sexual Offenders Evaluation Board within 90 days to determine if he is a sexually violent offender.

Sentencing was scheduled for May 19.

Ludwig remains free on bail in the cases.
