Montrose’s boys’ tennis team is hitting the courts after a 6-2 season last year and is looking forward to another solid year.

Coach Jim Hinds said that despite losing several seniors to graduation, the Montrose team returns a solid core of athletes.

Seniors Zach Warriner and Ryan Ochse, along with juniors Chris Jordan, Michael Roman and Isaac Mitchell will be back to help the Meteor team.

“Last year we had a great year,” Hinds said. “And if some of our newcomers step up I think we should have a pretty solid year.”

Hinds said that he believes Scranton Prep, a perennial favorite, will be a tough act in Lackawanna League Division II.

“I think Scranton Prep will be tough, of course,” Hinds said. “They always are.”

However, Hinds said he will look to his seniors, Warriner and Ochse, along with Roman to step out and provide leadership for the younger players.

The team started official practices last week, and have been working on fundamentals to prepare for the new season.

“We’ve been working a lot on consistency,” Hinds said. “As well as footwork.”

The Montrose Area boys’ tennis team is comprised of seniors Warriner and Ochse, juniors Jordan, Roman and Tom Davenport, sophomore Sean Regan, and freshmen Justin Parrish and Bryan Shultz.
