Senior wrestler Zach Thorne has been named Athlete of the Week. Son of Bob and Theresa Thorne of Little Meadows, Thorne has been awarded this honor once before during his high school career.
“I believe Zach was named Athlete of the Week because he is a superb example of what one is. He set goals for himself and did the necessary work to achieve them,” varsity wrestling coach Jim Lewis says.
Thorne earned a third place finish at both the Lackawanna League Championship, at District two tournament. Because of his finish at districts, he qualified for the Regional tournament for his second straight year. Coming a few matches short of reaching the state tournament, Thorne finished the season with a personal record of 27-12.
“I will miss Zach’s hard work and leadership next year,” Coach Lewis says.
Thorne has wrestled for 12 years, but with the close of the season, his wrestling career also ended.
After graduating in June, Thorne plans on pursuing a career in the Air Force.
