EL knocks off Blue Ridge in battle of unbeatens

Elk Lake’s softball team won a battle of the unbeatens Monday afternoon by knocking off Blue Ridge, 3-1, with Brooke Darling limiting the Red Raiders to one hit.

It was their fourth straight win on the week. The Lady Warriors grabbed a 10-0 shutout win at home over Western Wayne on Thursday and a 10-1 victory over Forest City during a home game on Tuesday. They also took a 3-1 victory over Lackawanna Trail on the road Saturday.

On Thursday, coach Tony Blaisure picked up his 400th career win as Gabby Baltzley went three-for-three with a two-run homer and a two-run double and Brooke Darling spun a two-hit shutout.

Bri Hollenbeck, Darling and Casey Tyler stroked two hits apiece.

Darling pitched five innings as she struck out 11 batters while walking none.

On Saturday, Elk Lake’s Sara Kwiatkowski scored the go-ahead run on an error in the sixth inning help the Warriors take the victory.

Kwiatkowski hit a one-out double in the sixth and advanced to third on a wild pitch before coming home with the go-ahead run.

Darling scattered five hits and allowed one unearned run with nine strikeouts for Elk Lake.

Against Forest City, Darling fired a one-hitter with 13 strikeouts and also went four-for-four from the plate with two doubles and three RBIs.

The Warriors scored one run in the first and plated two runners in each of the second and third innings to take a 5-0 lead.

Elk Lake then picked up three more runs in the fourth before Forest City got on the scoreboard with one run in the fifth.

The Warriors then capped off the game with a pair of runs in the sixth inning.

Taylor Watkins drove in four runs for Elk Lake while going two-for-four from the plate while Kyla Marcy and Hollenbeck each knocked a double.

Forest City’s only hit came from Kull while Martinez took the pitching loss giving up 16 hits and nine earned runs in six innings.

Blue Ridge

Blue Ridge’s girls’ softball team took a pair of wins last week as they defeated Western Wayne, 15-0, at home on Friday, and Mountain View, 6-0, at home on Thursday.

Against Western Wayne, the Raiders scored nine runs in the first inning, three in the third and another three in the fifth to take the five-inning shutout win.

Gabby Wolfe tossed a one-hitter and homered twice. Carissa Hawk also homered and drove in two runs for the Lady Raiders.

Jenna Rupakus knocked a triple for the Raiders.

On Thursday, Courtney Ucci fired a three-hitter with seven strikeouts and Wolfe had two triples to lead the Raiders.

Alix Taylor took the pitching loss for Mountain View, giving up seven hits, four earned runs and four wlks while striking out eight over six innings.

Resseguie, Beeman and Nichols each had a hit for the Eagles.

Montrose

The Montrose Area softball team took a 3-0 shutout victory over Mountain View on Eagle territory on Tuesday night.

It was a pitching battle through the first five innings with the Meteors scoring their first pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning.

After an insurance run from Montrose in the top of the seventh, the Meteors brought home the victory.

Andrea Hinds, who finished with two hits, and Sarah Feeney each drove in runs for the Meteors while Katie Groover added two hits for Montrose.

Hinds was the winning pitcher giving up four hits and one walk while striking out eight in seven innings.

Alix Taylor took the pitching loss from Mountain View giving Montrose seven hits, two earned runs and a walk while striking out 11 batters.

Andrea Beeman doubled for the Eagles while Taylor added a pair of hits.

Forest City

Forest City took an early 4-0 lead after the first two innings before Lackawanna Trail would have a big bottom of the second with seven runs to make it 7-4.

Forest City scored again in the third with one run, before Trail would strike back with a pair of runs in the fifth to make it 9-5.

The Foresters then tied up the game at 9-0 with four runs in the sixth inning, however, a single run for the Lions in the seventh would be enough to put Trail over the top.

Trail’s Lacey Croasdale scored the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. Croasdale, who finished with three hits and four RBIs, singled, reached third on a fielder’s choice and passed ball, and scored on a ball bobbled in the infield.

Forest City was led by Katherine Pecko with a double while Katie Yale took the pitching loss giving up 16 hits, 8 earned runs and one walk while striking out three.

Mountain View

Mountain View’s Lady Eagles faced a 4-1 loss to Lackawanna Trail at Tunnel Hill on Friday afternoon.

On Friday, the Lions got on the board early with a pair of runs in the first inning, and added a third run in the bottom of the third.

The Eagles’ only run came in the top of the fourth as they made it a 3-1 game. However, the Lady Lions capped off the win with an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Alix Taylor took the pitching loss giving up seven hits, four earned runs and two walks while striking out eight during six innings of work.

Mercedes Kromko had an RBI for Mountain View.
