For over 50 years, the Montrose Minute Men have been serving the local community out of a garage situated along Grow Ave.

The old ambulance is now gone, replaced by a new structure that can house eight vehicles and also provides office space for the emergency providers.

The Minute Men held an open house event Saturday, Apr. 16 to mark the opening of the facility.

Past crew and board members joined with current members to celebrate the occasion, including Alice Wood, wife of the late Minute Man founder Bob Wood.

Alice Wood was given the honor of cutting the ceremonial ribbon, officially placing the building into service.

Board member Daniel Regan spoke about the Wood family’s history with the Minute Men.

“We hope you feel part of this building constructed on hallowed ground,” Regan said to the Wood family.

The building process began nearly four years ago after the ambulance service’s insurance agent said the garage was in such a state of disrepair it was non-insurable.

Construction of the new building began in 2010.

Chief Jim Krupinski said that in addition to added space, the new building is also set up to allow crews to wash the vehicles inside the garage instead of outside, which they did even in the coldest months.
