Phillips named ‘Swimmer of the Year’

Elk Lake swimmer Adam Phillips has been named the Scranton Times-Tribune’s ‘Swimmer of the Year’ for his performance this past season.

Phillips, a junior, paced seventh in the 200-yard IM at 2:00.21 and seventh in the 100 breastroke at 1:00.61 at the PIAA Class AA state championship.

At the District II Class AA championship, Phillips took a gold in the 100 breaststroke at 1:00.93, and a silver in the 200 IM at 2:03.54.

This is Phillips’ second All-Region selection, and he finished fourth as part of the 400 free relay team and sixth as part of the 200 free relay team at the District II championship and second as part of the 400 relay team and sixth as part of the 200 free relay team at the county meet.

CHELSEA KARABIN

Elk Lake’s Chelsea Karabin was also honored as a member of the All-Region team for her performance.

Karabin, a senior, finished 25th in the 50 free at 25.53 in the PIAA Class AA state championship after taking silver in the District II Class AA championship in the 100 free at 55.79 and bronze in the 50 free at 25.21.

In the Lackawanna County meet, she took silver in the 50 free at 25.77 and 1silver in the 100 free at 57.65.

This is Karabin’s first All-Region selection, and she was also a member of the silver medal winning 400 free relay team at districts and the 200 free relay team at the county meet.
