Susquehanna powers past Foresters

The Susquehanna baseball team grabbed a 9-4 victory over Forest City’s Foresters on the road on Thursday afternoon.

The game was tied at 1-1 after the first three innings of play, before Susquehanna would use big fourth and fifth innings to take an 8-1 advantage over Forest City.

The Foresters then tacked on three runs in the fifth, before Susquehanna added a ninth run in the top of the seventh to take the victory.

Greg Price had two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs as Susquehanna won its first game of the season.

Austin Cowperthwait went the distance, allowing run runs on 10 hits while striking out five.

For Forest City, Logan Fitzsimmons was the losing pitcher as he gave up six hits, three earned runs and one walk while striking out three over 4 and-a-third innings.

Fitzsimmons also added a double for the Foresters.

Mountain View

Mountain View’s baseball team grabbed a 5-4 victory over the Elk Lake Warriors at home on Thursday afternoon.

The Eagles picked up all of their runs in the third inning as they brought five runs across the plate. And despite four runs from the Warriors in the fifth inning, Mountain View hung on to the win.

Nate Goodenough drove in two runs and Scott Edwards had two hits for the winners as Dylan Thomas picked up the pitching win giving up six hits, four earned runs and three walks while striking out nine.

Jeff Horvath homered and Holden Lunger had two doubles for Elk Lake while Lunger took the mound loss giving up four hits, four earned runs and three walks while striking out eight.

Montrose

Montrose Area’s baseball team faced a loss from Western Wayne on the road and then took a win on the same day in a double-header against the Wildcats on Thursday.

The first game yielded a 13-3 loss as the Wildcats got ahead 3-0 after the bottom of the third inning, however, Montrose tied things up at three apiece with runs in the fifth inning.

Western Wayne then came back to attack the Meteors with two runs in the bottom of the fifth and eight runs in the sixth to take the win.

Zach Loomis doubled for Montrose, while Hackett took the mound loss giving up four hits, four earned runs and eight walks while striking out six over five innings on the mound.

In the second game, the Meteors grabbed a 7-6 victory over the Wildcats as Matt Lewis went three-for-three with a triple and Casey O’Reilly had two hits and scored twice.

Jeremiah Johnson took the mound win going 5 and-two-thirds innings giving up nine hits, three earned runs and one walk while striking out four.

Blue Ridge

Blue Ridge took its first loss of the season at home on Thursday as Lackawanna Trail posted a 12-8 victory over the Raiders in Division III action.

The Raiders got ahead early against Trail as they plated a pair of runs in the first. However, Trail struck back with three runs in the top of the fourth to take the 3-2 lead.

Blue Ridge forged ahead again with a big fifth inning where the Raiders plated five runs to regain at 7-3 lead.

However, Trail scored four runs in the sixth and five in the seventh to take a 12-7 lead, and despite a run from Blue Ridge in the seventh, the Raiders could not mount a comeback.

Joe Zawiski had three hits and Adam Gordon drove in three runs for Blue Ridge. Jacob Roberts, Gordon and Dylan Pruitt each added doubles for the Raiders.

Riley Fekette was the losing pitcher giving up three hits, five earned runs and three walks while striking out one in one inning on the mound.
