Elk Lake splits on diamond

The Elk Lake baseball team lost an 8-2 battle at home on Saturday against Lackawanna Trail after it picked up an 11-1 victory over Susquehanna in a home game on Tuesday evening.

Against Trail, the Lions got head first with three runs in the second before Elk Lake would earn a run in each of the third and fourth innings to bring the game to 3-2.

However, Trail broke things open in the sixth with four runs, before tacking on an insurance run in the seventh to grab the 8-2 victory.

Damian Dailey was the losing pitcher for Elk Lake as he gave up five hits and five earned runs while walking one and striking out one of two innings.

Matt Horvath singled and drove in a run while Nick Dudock and Holden Lunger each had singles for the Warriors.

On Tuesday, Susquehanna scored its only run in the top of the second before the Warriors would score three in each of the second and third innings to take a 6-1 lead.

The Warriors then tacked on four more runs in the fifth and an 11th in the sixth inning to take home the victory.

Dailey hit two home runs and had three RBIs while Jeff Horvath had four hits and Lunger doubled.

Dailey was the winning pitcher giving up four hits and one earned run while walking three and notching eight strikeouts.

For the Sabers, Soden had a hit and an RBI while Austin Cowperthwait took the mound loss giving up five hits, six earned runs and two walks while striking out a batter in two and two-thirds innings.

Montrose

Montrose Area grabbed a 6-3 victory over Forest City at home on Friday after taking a win against Blue Ridge on the road on Tuesday evening, 4-2.

On Friday, the Meteors got a run in the first before the Foresters would tie things up in the second inning.

Montrose then added a pair of runs in the fourth to lead 3-1, but Forest City answered back with two runs in the sixth to bring the tally to 3-3.

However, a three-run sixth for Montrose was enough to overtake the Foresters.

Jared Winn had a pinch-hit two-run double for the Meteors as Michael Rapisardi took the pitching win giving up two hits and no runs while striking out six over one and two-thirds innings.

Michael Hackett, Casey O’Reilly and Matt Lewis all had doubles for the Meteors.

Zach Mendoza knocked a triple for the Foresters while Tom Kleinbauer had a double. Logan Fitzsimmons took the pitching loss giving up three hits and two earned runs over one and two-thirds innings.

On Tuesday, the Meteors got on the board first with a pair of runs in the top of the first, before the Raiders would tie things up at two apiece.

However, the Meteors scored a run in the third and in the sixth to take the win over the Raiders.

For Montrose, Mike Marz had three hits and Winn pitched a complete game with three strikeouts.

Joey Zawiski had two hits, one a double, for the Raiders while taking the pitching loss giving up seven hits, one earned run, three walks and notching five strikeouts.

Mountain View

Mountain View’s baseball team was handed an 8-2 loss from Western Wayne in a home game on Saturday.

The Eagles fell behind, 5-0, in the third before scoring a run in the bottom of the third to bring the tally to 5-1.

However, Western Wayne drove in three more runs in the sixth to make it 8-1, and despite a run from Mountain View in the sixth, the Wildcats took home the win.

Scott Edwards doubled for the Eagles, while Nate Goodenough had a pair of hits and an RBI. Dylan Thomas had a pair of hits.

Mike Wakalowski was the losing pitcher as he gave up eight hits, no earned runs and no walks while striking out 13 batters over six and two-thirds innings.
