Darling notches 50th win as Lady Warriors cruise

Elk Lake senior Brooke Darling reached a pair of milestones while allowing just one hit and an unearned run in a 15-3 Lackawanna League Division III softball victory over Susquehanna on Tuesday.

Elk Lake also picked up a 10-0 victory over the girls from Lackawanna Trail at Elk Lake on Thursday afternoon.

Her 12 strikeouts raised her career total to 700, and she earned her 50th win.

Bri Hollenbeck had three hits and three RBIs and Gabby Baltzley homered to lead the Warriors in the win.

Taylor Watkins, Casey Tyler and Laura Gacha each added doubles for the winners.

The Warriors scored a single run in the first, followed by seven in the second, five in the third and two in the fourth to end the game by the 10-run rule.

Susquehanna’s only hit came from Barnes, while Burke took the pitching loss giving up 17 hits, 10 earned runs and three walks while striking out two.

On Thursday, the Warriors scored two runs in each of the first two innings while holding the Lions scoreless to take a 4-0 lead.

Elk Lake then tacked on six runs in the fifth inning to end the game by the 10-run rule.

Baltzley collected three hits including a pair of doubles for Elk Lake while McKenzie Moon had three hits to back winning pitcher Brooke Darling, who struck out 10 batters and yielded only a pair of singles.

Elk Lake’s Hollenbeck notched a pair of hits and two RBIs to assist the Warriors.

Blue Ridge

The Blue Ridge softball team edged out Montrose Area, 5-4, on Tuesday evening at a game played in Hallstead.

Blue Ridge got on the board fast, scoring two runs in the first and three in the second to take an early 5-0 lead.

And despite a four-run inning from Montrose in the fifth, the Raiders brought home the victory.

Carissa Hawk doubled and drove in two runs and Courtney Ucci had two hits, including a double for Blue Ridge.

Ucci was also the winning pitcher giving up four hits, two earned runs and no walks while striking out three.

Katie Groover hit a grand slam in the fifth inning to give the Meteors their four runs, while Andrea Hinds took the pitching loss giving up six hits, four earned runs and four walks while striking out four batters.

Montrose

The Montrose Area softball team picked up a 13-3 win over Forest City at home on Friday afternoon.

The Meteors got ahead quick as they notched eight runs in the first inning of play. Forest City answered the bell in the third inning with two runs to bring the tally to 8-2, before the Meteors would break the game open again with four more runs in the fourth to make it 12-2.

And after each team tacked on another run in the fifth, Montrose took the 13-3 win.

Dallas Ely hit a home run and drove in three runs while Andrea Hinds had three RBIs to lead the Meteors.

Hinds was the winning pitcher giving up  two hits, one earned run and four walks while striking out eight over four innings.

Katie Yale was the losing pitcher as she gave up 11 hits, two earned runs and four walks while striking out three over five innings in the circle.

Yale also knocked a pair of hits and drove in a run for the Foresters.
