Locals compete at Lasagna Invitational

Tunkhannock’s boys and Dallas’ girls feasted on Lasagna Friday.

The Tigers jumped out ahead of Holy Redeemer for the boys title and the Lady Mountaineers edged out Holy Redeemer for the girls title at the Eighth Annual Lasagna Invitational at Wyalusing.

The meet has become a premier event for the best of PIAA’s District 2 and 4 track and field teams to see just how good they are a little less than three weeks ahead of their own respective PIAA district meets.

RECORD BREAKERS

Some nine meet records were shattered along the way Friday.

Included in those were the following records broken by Elk Lake: Mike Bedell’s 800 meter run in one minute 56.89,  seconds and the 4×800 meter relay team of Sean Carney, Bedell, Bryan Grosvenor, and Will Bennett who ran in a time of 8:02.06 besting the Elk Lake previous record set in 2010 of 8:03.49. It was more than five seconds ahead of Tunkhannock’s relay team time of 8:08.36, which, incidentally, broke the old Tunkhannock school record of 8:09.40

Others taking first place in their respective events at the Lasagna Invitational were:

Blue Ridge: Zach Kruger took first place in the 300 hurdles with a time of 40.70, 1.79 seconds

ahead of Western Wayne’s James Berger. Eric Onyon took first in the shot put with a distance of 46-9, more than foot ahead of Western Wayne’s Travis Toth. Katie Drake won the pole vault with a height of 9-0.

Elk Lake: The 4×400 meter relay team of Kelsie Hermick, Maria Trowbridge, Cassie VanEtten and Kirsten Hollister ran in a time of 4:17.50, 1.45 seconds ahead of Abington Heights; Will Bennett in the 1600 meter run in a time of 4:34.15, less than 43-hundredths of a second ahead of AJ Limongell of Holy Redeemer; the 4×400 meter relay team of Carney, Bedell, Grosvenor and Bennett in a time of 3:32.12, more than four seconds ahead of Tunkhannock.
