A 19-year-old woman from Philadelphia was killed in a crash on Interstate 81 on Saturday afternoon.

State police at Gibson said Catereace Williams was riding in the front passenger seat of a northbound vehicle driven by Daniel E. Williams, also of Philadelphia, that crossed the median and collided with a southbound vehicle, driven by Todd Frederick of Boiling Springs, S.C.

Williams was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said it is not known why Mr. Williams lost control.

Williams was taken to Community Medical Center in Scranton with major injuries. Mr. Frederick was taken to CMC with moderate injuries, police said. Two other passengers in Mr. Williams’ car – Rebecca Louden, 19, and Stephone Norris, age unavailable, both of Philadelphia – were also taken to CMC. Hospital officials were not available for comment Saturday.
