‘True Friends’ celebrates opening

BY STACI WILSON

True Friends Animal Welfare Center will celebrate its grand opening, Saturday, June 25, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

True Friends, a non-profit group, recently took over the reins of the Montrose Adoption Center from the PSPCA. The adoption center is located on Rts. 706 and 29, across from Lake Montrose.

Director Dory Browning said, “True Friends is really excited to keep our shelter open and transform it into a welcoming place to visit.  The outpouring of support has been truly inspiring; it is a pleasure to work with the community to strengthen our center.”

The grand opening event is being sponsored by Peoples Neighborhood Bank.

Activities planned for the day include face painting, DJ entertainment, a bake sale, pin-the-tail on the dog and a dog treat bar. Concessions for two-legged attendees will also be available.

Local businesses have also come together to support True Friends with donations for a silent auction.

People’s will also be contributing $10 off for any adoption and True Friends will also be offering adoption discounts to show our appreciation for your support.

Browning said, “There is a great need for monetary donations to keep our vital shelter open and every little bit helps.”

True Friends is the only local non-kill animal shelter currently run by a dedicated team of volunteers. The adoption center is completely funded by donations.

One hundred percent of your donations go directly to helping our animal friends,” Browning said.

Tax-deductible donations can be made to the Community Foundation of Susquehanna & Wyoming Counties, 270 Lake Avenue, Montrose, PA 18801.
