DA looking into courtroom threat

ROY CAMP

BY STACI WILSON

The Susquehanna County District Attorney’s office is looking into threats made against a rape victim who spoke at her attacker’s sentencing hearing on Thursday.

Roy William Camp, 69, Montrose, was sentenced to serve 78 months to 20 years for raping a 12 year old girl at his property in Jessup Twp. nearly a decade ago.

District Attorney Jason Legg said the courtroom threat is currently being investigated and charges in the matter have not been ruled out.

The Times-Tribune does not identify the victims of sexual assault.

On the stand, the victim – now an adult woman – explained to the court how the sexual abuse had affected her life.

Although Mr. Camp pleaded guilty to one count of rape, according to court documents, he admitted to police he had sexually assaulted the girl at least one dozen times over a four-year period starting in August 2002.

District Attorney Jason Legg said, “It is hard to understand where this victim found the strength, courage and grace to stand up to this monster and fight for justice – but she did it right to the end when she sat on the stand and explained to the world just how much the sexual abuse had hurt her and damaged her life.  I am so proud of her.”

The sexual offender assessment board determined Camp to be a sexually violent predator, and Camp also stipulated the same – a point the judge noted when sentencing Camp in the upward, aggravated range for the charge.

Legg said, “I am grateful that the Court gave him the maximum sentence. Given his age and health, there is a good possibility that this will be a life sentence. It is my fervent hope that this dangerous predator spends everyday of the rest of his natural life incarcerated in a state correctional facility.”
