New Milford Twp. revisits bids

BY PAT FARNELLI

New MilfordTownshipsupervisors, after awarding a bid for precast concrete blocks at last month’s meeting, had to reject that contract and go with the second highest bidder, because the low bidder wrote a letter stating that company could not provide all of the types of concrete blocks specified in the township’s request for bids.

Supervisors said last Wednesday (Aug. 17) that Barney and Dickinson of Vestal, N.Y., had submitted bids for roughly 260 blocks of several different types, but since then withdrew their bid because the company  was unable to supply all of the blocks that the supervisors were seeking for a new township maintenance garage.

The contract was awarded to Masters, the second lowest bidder.

New MilfordTownshiphas received a $150,000 grant from DCED to offset the cost of the above project.

There were no updates on the controversial gas well drilling on or near the Lyncott landfill facility.

However, the supervisors said that Southwestern Energy is “going great guns” in the township, pointing out a map with numerous red dots for gas well drilling pads of which the township has been notified.

Southwestern submitted a number of notices of intent for consumptive use of water, and has been issued several driveway and land use permits. A memo of understanding has been drafted with the township solicitor and signed via resolution, the supervisors said.

At the July meeting, Supervisor Don Shibley suggested that the township look into information regarding an earned income tax. The supervisors informed the visitors that CenTax holds the contract for the Susquehanna County EIT collection.

The supervisors asked to be placed on the mailing list for CenTax’s October informational package. Solicitor Briechle is still researching the township’s options, as well as drafting an ordinance.

The supervisors have signed the state contract regarding the repair ofOliver Road.

The supervisors said they wanted to remind the public to call the township office if one has doubts about whether one’s project does or does not require a permit.

This applies to home improvements, additions, decks, etc. The office is open Monday through Wednesday from9 a.m.to2 p.m.

The supervisors’ next meeting is set for Wednesday, Sept. 21 at7:30 p.m.
