Republicans rally troops

The guest speaker at the Susquehanna County Republican Fall Rally was Tom Krupinski who spoke on why we celebrate Columbus Day.

Introduced by county chairman John Kameen, the speaker noted, “This is the day to remember Christopher Columbus asColumbuswas really the first one here. If he hadn’t seen something here we would not be here today,” Krupinski said.

Krupinski said thatAmericawould eventually become the model of what this world should be, true freedom.

He said the Republican Party has a goal to put this country back on track and it has the capacity to do this. “So, take time to celebrateColumbusand remember, if it wasn’t for him we would not be here,.”

The speaker was accompanied to the fall rally by his mother, attorney Marion O’Malley.

State Sen. Baker thanked Kameen and all the committee for inviting her to the rally.

“We are proud to represent you inHarrisburg,” she said.

She spoke of the flood recovery effort and how everyone gathered around to help the flood victims.

Baker also addressed the boundaries of House and Senate districts that are redrawn every 10 years after theU.S.census and said she does not expect any changes for this area.

She also spoke of the Marcellus Shale impact fee proposal and the recommendations for safety standards.

“What the final impact fee package will be remains to be seen,” Baker said, noting that some of the safety standards proposed include changes in the distance of gas wells from water sources.
Rep. Sandra Major urged everyone to support the Republican candidates. She spoke of the balanced state budget for the first time since 2003, with no tax increase.

We can’t keep coming back to the taxpayers though, she said. Welfare system reform, Marcellus Shale issues, Megan’s Law and the privatization of state stores are some of the legislation changes she is working on.

Major thanked everyone for helping during the flood recovery and thanked everyone for allowing her to represent the residents inHarrisburg.

Congressman Tom Marino, a frequent visitor toSusquehannaCounty, said the federal government needs to stay out of the Marcellus Shale issues.

He also said the Republicans need to take over the White House and senate, and people should know they can count on him.

“We have changed the way business is done inWashington,” Marino said., noting he is accessible at any time.

County Commissioner Michael Giangrieco told those attending they will no longer see the line on their tax bill that shows debt as the county has balanced the budget.

“I will continue to run the county as a business, not on politics and spend the money like it was my own,” he said.
Commissioner candidate Alan Hall thanked Marino, Baker, Major and the commissioners for all their help with flood victims.

Hall spoke of the help offered byBlue RidgeSchool District, noting it did not ask for money but accepted donations, food and clothing.

He gave his background in business and asked for support in the upcoming election.

District attorney Jason Legg and treasurer Cathy Benedict both spoke and asked for support. Other county officials were not able to attend.

The afternoon began with invocation by Pastor Gary Haskell of theJacksonBaptistChurchwhere the Rally was held.

Committee secretary and rally chairman Carolyn Paccio led the pledge to the flag and the singing of the National Anthem.
