Elderly man assaulted, car stolen

A 72-year-old man was assaulted and his car stolen by a man and woman Thursday morning in Susquehanna Depot, police said.

Susquehanna Sgt. Xaysongkham Phonechanh said the incident happened onWashington St.at about10 a.m.on Oct. 13. The vehicle is a green, 1998 Chevrolet Blazer.

Daniel Bentz, 30, Susquehanna, was apprehended by police at about8 p.m., Thursday, at theProspect St.apartment complex.

Police are still looking for the woman, identified as Tracey Lynn Ramsay, 30, Montrose. She was not with Bentz at the time of his arrest.

Bentz was charged with three felony counts – robbery of a motor vehicle, theft by unlawful taking, and receiving stolen property.

He was also charged with simple assault and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle – both misdemeanors.

Ramsey faces an identical list of charges. A warrant for her arrest was issued Friday afternoon.

Bentz was arraigned in front of District Judge Jeffrey Hollister. Bail was set at $50,000.

According to the affidavit, Bentz claims Ramsay pulled the victim out of the car.

He also said she left him inDicksonCityand that she now has the vehicle.

A preliminary hearing scheduled for Monday, Oct. 17 in New Milford District Court in front of District Judge Peter Janicelli was continued.

Police said the elderly man was shaken up and sustained bumps and bruises. He taken by family members to the hospital to be checked out said police.

Phonechanh said, “They saw an opportunity for somebody who couldn’t fight back.”

Bentz also currently faces felony theft and receiving stolen property charges in Susquehanna County Court in connection with an Aug. 27 incident in Great Bend Twp.

Bentz had waived his Oct. 3 preliminary hearing in that case and was released on his own recognizance
