Lady Meteors defeat Holy Cross, Elk Lake

The Montrose Area girls’ basketball team grabbed a 61-29 win over Montrose at home on Monday, after it picked up a 45-43 victory over Holy Cross at home on Friday night.

FacingElkLake, Montrose got ahead 14-9 after the first quarter and after a 20-6 run in the second held a 34-15 lead at halftime.

In the third, the Meteors pacedElkLake19-2, and despite a 12-8 run from the Warriors in the fourth, Montrose took the win.

The Lady Meteors were led by Dallas Ely with 19 and Sara Krupinski with 13 while Brooke Malloy added seven.

ElkLakewas pacced by Casey Tyler with 10 and Megan Bush with seven, while Taylor Watkins chipped in six.

Against Holy Cross, the seventh-ranked Lady Meteors blew a double-digit fourth-quarter lead but recovered in overtime to nip No. 8 Holy Cross.

Dallas Ely led the winners with 24 points and Sarah Krupinski tossed in nine.

The Lady Meteors led 11-10 after the first and 23-16 at halftime. Montrose then paced Holy Cross, 13-10 in the third but saw the game tied at the end of regulation at 41.

Myra Lattimore chipped in eight points while Nicki Lewis had four points.

Forest City

TheForestCitygirls’ basketball team took a 48-40 win overLakelandat home on Monday after it faced a 39-29 loss toWestern Waynein the consolation game of the Honesdale Jaycees Tournament on Thursday night.

FacingLakeland, Carly Erdmann scored 17 points to lead the Lady Foresters while Morgan Saul added 11 and Cassie Bendyk had nine.

ForestCitypacedLakeland16-8 in the first, and despite being outscored 12-10 in the second and 10-7 in the third, took the win with a 15-10 run in the fourth quarter.

At Honesdale, the Forester team was also handed a 47-30 loss from Wallenpaupack in the opening round on Tuesday night.

AgainstWestern Wayne, the Foresters got out to an early 8-7 lead after the first quarter but fell behind 17-13 by halftime.

After the break, the Foresters paced the Wildcats 11-10 in the third but the Wildcats sealed the win with a 12-5 run in the fourth.

Carly Erdmann, who was named to the all-tournament team, paced the Foresters with 14 points while Cassie Bendyk had seven and Lauren Heller had five.

On Tuesday, the Foresters fell behind as ‘Paupack jumped out to a 19-8 lead after the first quarter, and trailed 21-18 at halftime.

Wallenpaupack then paced the Foresters 12-4 in the third and 14-10 in the fourth to seal the win.

Erdmann scored a game-high 12 points forForestCitywhile Heller had six and Saul had four.

Mountain View

Mountain View’s girls’ basketball team took a 52-37 loss from Lackawanna Trail on the road on Monday night after it placed fourth in the Pittston Holiday Tournament as the team faced a 41-30 loss to Wyoming Area in the consolation game,

Against Trail, the Lions got out to an early lead pacing the Eagles 21-16 by halftime.

In the second half, the Lions pacedMt.View15-6 in the third and 16-15 in the fourth to take the win.

Dominique Chadwick scored 11 forMountain View, while Victoria Sterling added 11.

At the Pittston Tournament, the Eagles also took took a 68-25 loss from Pittston Area in the first round on Tuesday night.

Against Wyoming Area, the Eagles fell behind 10-2 after the first and trailed 22-10 at halftime.

The Warriors then paced the Eagles 11-3 in the third and despite a 17-10 run from the Eagles in the fourth they took the loss.

Mountain Viewwas led bySterlingwith nine points while Caitlyn Tague had seven and Melissa Monahan had six.

On Tuesday, the Patriots jumped out to an early lead with a 23-7 run in the first and held a 42-11 advantage overMountain Viewat the half.

After the break, each team scored 10 in the third, and after a 16-4 run from the Patriots in the fourth, they sealed the win.

Megan Kress scored a team-high eight points forMountain Viewwhile Tague had seven and Monahan had five.

Blue Ridge

TheBlue Ridgegirls’ basketball team took a 54-44 victory over Susquehanna on the road on Monday night.

Ashley Warren scored 18 points and Kristen Brown added 12 to lead the Lady Raiders to a Division III win.

The Raiders fell to a 14-9 deficit after the first but paced Susquehanna 19-10 in the second, 16-11 in the third and 10-7 in the fourth to take the win.

Nicole Barnes scored 10 for Susquehanna while Mashawna Hargett chipped in nine.
