Two accused in Auburn burglary

Two Meshoppen area men allegedly stole a laptop computer from an Auburn Twp. home and planned to sell it to get money for drugs.

Royce Hutchinson, 20, and Cody Brown, 21, waived their Monday, Jan. 16 preliminary hearings in Montrose District Court and charges were bound over for trial. Both men were released on unsecured bail.

Both men face counts of burglary, criminal trespass, theft and receiving stolen property, as well as conspiracy charges, in connection with the Jan. 11 incident at the McGavin residence onShannon Hill Rd.

Tpr. John Bradley, of the Gibson State Police barracks, was investigating the McGavin residence burglary and received a call from Meshoppen Police Chief John Krieg.

According to the affidavit, Chief Krieg told state police that Brown was in possession of the laptop when he recovered it.

The Meshoppen chief also told Tpr. Bradley that Brown admitted that he had stolen the computer from the McGavin residence and thatHutchinsonaccompanied him, police said.

After being read their Miranda rights, state police interviewed both Brown and Hutchinson separately on Jan. 11 at the Gibson barracks.

According to the affidavit, both men told police thatHutchinsondrove the two of them to the Shannon Hill home and Brown entered the residence and stole the laptop.

Police said that both Hutchinson and Brown also said they drove to Meshoppen to sell the computer to get money to buy drugs.

The laptop computer was recovered and placed into evidence.
