Major scores 1,000th point

COLBY MAJOR

Colby Major scored 23 points, including the 1,000th of his career, to lead Montrose to a 59-47 win over Mountain View on Friday night a Lackawanna League Division III boys’ basketball game.

A returning Division III all-star, Major needed only 14 points to surpass the milestone.

Montrose seized control of the game, taking a 23-6 lead in the first quarter. The Meteors, winners of the first-half title, stayed one-game back of Lakeland in the standings.

Nate Chipelo scored 17 points and Nate Goodenough added 15 forMountain View.

Montrose had 12 from Tom Lewis and Corey Adams scored 10 points.

Also last week, Montrose Area picked up a 56-40 victory overBlue Ridgeon the road on Tuesday night.

The Meteors got ahead 17-13 in the first quarter and held onto a 29-25 lead at halftime.

In the second half, the Meteors pacedBlue Ridge9-5 in the third and capped off the win with an 18-10 run in the fourth.

Tom Lewis paced Montrose with a game-high 25 points while Colby Major added 15 and Jamie Smith had six.

Alex Cardoza ledBlue Ridgewith 14 points while Jesse Pruitt had 10 points for the Raiders who played the first half without leading scorer Sawyer Dearborn.

Susquehanna

Susquehanna’s boys’ basketball team picked up a 60-55 win overElkLakeon the road Friday after the team grabbed a 50-44 victory overMountain Viewon the road on Tuesday evening.

AgainstElkLake, Susquehanna took an early lead with a 21-10 first quarter beforeElkLakewould close the gap to 28-21 with an 11-7 run in the second quarter.

However, Susquehanna struck back pacing the Warriors 18-13 in the third, and despite a late-game 21-14 run, the Warriors took the loss.

Cole Mallery scored 24 points for Susquehanna while Austin Cowperthwait added 15 and Andrzej Tomczyk had nine.

ElkLakewas paced by Tanner Reyan with 16 points while Rob Heft scored 12 and Nick Dudock had 10.

On Tuesday, the Sabers took an early 19-11 lead and after a 12-4 run in the second led the Eagles 31-15 at halftime.

After the break,Mountain Viewstruck back with a 12-7 run in the third and despite outscoring the Sabers 17-12 in the fourth, Susquehanna took the win.

The Sabers were led by Tomczyk’s 22 points while Mallery added 19 points for Susquehanna.

Mountain Viewwas led by Nate Chipelo with 10 points while Dylan Bradley and Jake Madas had eight points apiece.

Elk Lake

ElkLake’s boys’ basketball team took a 52-41 victory overForestcity in a Lackawanna League Division III matchup on Tuesday night.

The Warriors fell behind early in the game as the Foresters outscored them 8-6 in the first.ElkLakepaced the Foresters 10-9 in the second but trailed 17-16 at halftime.

However, the Warriors used a big 23-7 run in the third quarter to take the lead and despite being paced 17-13 in the fourth, hung on to win.

Rob Heft scored 25 points, brought down seven rebounds and collected nine steals to leadElkLake. Tanner Reyan chipped in 12 points while Matt Cuomo had five.

ForestCitywas paced by Noah Fedak with 12 points while Vince Delucy scored 10 and Dylan Walsh had nine.

Blue Ridge

Blue Ridge’s boys’ basketball team was edged out 72-64 atLakelandon Friday night in a Lackawanna League Division III matchup.

The Raiders, starting without standout Sawyer Dearborn, who is nursing a sore back, stayed in the game as Alex Cardoza, who finished with 20 points, scored four points and dazzled the fans on three no-look passes for assists.

The Raiders fell behind asLakelandposted a 20-12 lead after the first quarter and held a 37-33 lead overBlue Ridgeat the half.

In the second half, the Chiefs outscored the Raiders 16-13 in the third and 19-18 in the fourth to cap the victory.

“When we play these guys, it’s a fast game,”Blue Ridgecoach Brian Woodruff said. “We were coming in with a tough task. I was happy with our guys’ effort, but they sealed the game at the end.”

Forest City

TheForestCityboys’ basketball team was handed a 53-30 loss at Mid Valley on Saturday after the team faced a 65-39 loss from Lackawanna Trail at home on Friday night.

On Saturday, the Foresters fell behind 22-2 after the first quarter and trailed the Spartans 34-15 by halftime.

In the third, Mid Valley outscoredForestCity9-6 and then capped off the game with a 10-9 run in the fourth.

ForestCitywas paced by David Cavalieri, Noah Fedak and Matt Nevins with seven points apiece.

Against Trail, the Foresters fell behind early as Trail took a 14-10 lead in the first quarter, beforeForestCitywould bring the game within one by halftime, 25-24.

In the second half, Trail used a pair of big quarters to seal the win as they paced the Foresters 20-7 in the third and 19-7 in the fourth.

ForestCitywas paced by Nevins with 11 points and Dylan Walsh scored 10 while Brian Nebzydoski dropped in six points.
