Police find heroin hidden in mashed potatoes

Police seized over 1000 bags of heroin hidden in a sealed box of instant mashed potatoes during a traffic stop Monday, Feb. 20 in SusquehannaCounty. Street value of the drugs is $25,000.

Lloyd Rashad Brown Jr., 30, was charged with one felony count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance by a person not registered and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Brown was arraigned Monday by Magisterial District Judge Jodi Cordner.

He is being held in the Susquehanna County Correctional Facility on $200,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Feb. 28 in Clifford District Court.

Brown was traveling north on I-81, Lenox Twp., when he was stopped at about12:30 p.m.by Tpr. Robert Romanaskas for a traffic violation.

Police said numerous criminal indicators were present. A search was requested by police and Brown consented.

In just over one month, troopers out of the Gibson barracks have seized nearly 2000 bags of heroin in three Lenox Twp. traffic stops on I-81.

On Jan. 18, four people were arrested for transporting 170 bags of heroin, as well as crack cocaine, during a traffic stop in Lenox Twp.

And on Jan. 27, aBinghamton,N.Y., man was charged after police seized 800 bags of heroin he allegedly had concealed in a comforter set.
