Over 60 cancer survivors and caregivers took part in the first Survivor’s Luncheon held Tuesday, Feb. 28 in the Susquehanna County Career andTechnologyCenter’s Touch of Class restaurant and Serfass Solarium.
Survivor Chairperson and longtime Relay for Life participant Bonnie Morgan told the group that as planning for the event began; she was worried that few would attend the event.
“So many (survivors) are inFloridaright now,” Morgan said. “And then I thought how great it was that we have survivors who are inFlorida.”
The first-time event, sponsored by Cabot Oil & Gas Corporation, helped to launch the Relay for Life fundraising season.
Door prizes were provided by Conklin’s Unique Country, From the Heart, Trehab and Relay teams, Button-Weller and Catherine’s Crusaders.
Susquehanna County Relay for Life chairman Peter Bell said many past Relayers attended the luncheon but there were some new faces at the event as well.
The annual Susquehanna County Relay for Life will be held June 23-24 on the track at theMontroseAreaHigh School.
Planning for the event is underway. The next meeting will be held Tuesday, March 20 at6 p.m.at theEMHSTrainingCenter,Grow Ave., Montrose (located next to the Driver’sLicenseCenter). Guest speaker for the evening isKristiOverfieldwho will share her cancer story and the effects of tanning beds.
