McKENZI MOON

AgainstBlue Ridgelast Monday, she finished 3 for 5 as the Lady Warriors won, 19-13, and in a 9-8 win overMountain Viewon Wednesday, Moon scored the game-tying run in the seventh inning and finished 4 for 4.

For her accomplishments, Moon was named Scranton Times-Tribune Athlete of the Week on April 22.

Age: 17

Family: Mother, Kimberly; father, Tracy; brother, Logan.

Other sports I play: Basketball and soccer.

Favorite sports teams:DukeUniversity men’s basketball,University ofAlabama softball.

Person I admire: My parents’ goddaughter Paige Marabell. She’s always there to support me. She’s like my good luck charm. She looks up to me, so that pushes me to do my best.

Favorite food: Food in general. I’ll eat anything. I like sushi. I’ve tried octopus, that was weird.

Favorite movies: “21 Jump Street” and “Hoosiers.” That movie just makes you want to go out and play basketball after.

Superstitions and rituals: I don’t wash my uniform. We all braid our hair, and (coach Tony) Blaisure before every game tells us, “You’re wearing this uniform for a reason and we have to show everyone why we’re wearing that uniform and what that represents.”

You had an impressive performance in the two wins. What are your thoughts on your overall performance? I’m very intense, so I think I can always do better. I’m proud of myself for what I’m doing. Murph (coach Mike Muprhy) and Blaisure always tell me I can do better. They know I can do better. They don’t want doubles and triples; they want home runs every time. I’m satisfied and I’m doing what I need to do, but I have that pressure on me that I could do better.

How do you translate that into having a better performance during a game? When I’m in a game, I always go off the pitcher. When the pitcher’s ready, I’m ready. Every pitch, I have to tell myself what I need to do and why I need to do it. Especially with a younger pitcher, the balls are coming at me like 10 times faster, so I need to be on my toes all the time.

What are some things you need to continue doing well moving forward? We need to keep our focus when we hit. We need to just relax and make contact. We have a lot of power hitters and if they do make a mistake, they just need to think, OK, next time I’ll crush it. We just need to keep thinking like that, and we’ll do good.

One word to describe me: Intense.

Three people I’d like to have dinner with: Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski, Channing Tatum and Shemar Moore.

Post-graduation plans: I want to go to college to be a radiologist, something with medical imaging.
