Man electrocuted during scrap theft

ANew Yorkman was electrocuted Saturday while attempting to steal wire and scrap metal from the former Bendix building in South Montrose, police reported.

John Santacroce, 29, of Lansing Station, N.Y., came into contact with high voltage electrical lines Aug. 11 at about9:45 p.m., at the Rt. 3029 facility.

Santacroce was at the facility with another person when the incident occurred. That person contacted a friend by cell phone who arrived at the scene to assist, said police.

The two placed Santacore in a vehicle and drove him toLourdesHospitalinBinghamton,N.Y., where he was pronounced dead Aug. 12 at12:51 a.m.
