Rain may have dampened the midway but spirits remained sunny at opening day of the 155th Harford Fair.
Although wearing rain ponchos, Robert VanGorder’s family tried their luck at some of the carnival games.
“It’s a good time,” VanGorder, of Factoryville, said. “The kids are enjoying themselves.”
Jason Miller, a Harford Fair director, said he thought that the rain may have deterred some people from attending on opening day. But although attendance may have been down, Miller said, “It’s still a decent crowd. They seem to be hanging in there.”
And fair contests, activities and entertainment continued on despite occasional downpours from 4-H steer judging in the cattle barn, horsemanship in the north arena and Banjo Man Jim Hayner playing to the shade pavilion crowds.
Miller said the opening day rains would give way to a beautiful rest of the week for the fair visitors.
“It’s a good, wholesome family atmosphere here,” he said, “a place you can meet up with friends and have a good time… enjoy the sights and sounds. It’s a family tradition.”
