Harford Fair Board of Directors selected director and former board treasurer Dale Grant as the 2012 Outstanding Fair Ambassador.

Grant is a third generation Harford Fair director, following in his grandfather’s and father’s footsteps.

He has served the fair since 1957 when he was superintendent of cattle. He continued through the years wearing many hats until 1984 when as a fair board director he was first elected treasurer.  He remains a director following his resignation as treasurer.

Described as the person everyone goes to for advice, he has been involved in many projects on the fairgrounds.

Living just over the hill from the fairgrounds, this director for 52 dedicated years has been known as “the guardian” for all those years.

The presentation of the award was made by Boots Hetherington, the Fair Administrator for the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.

Another longstanding award presentation was made by Fair Director Cindy Reynolds to the winner of the Harford Fair Book cover design, Michael Palughi ofEdison,N.J., and a summer resident of SusquehannaCounty.

He also designed the 2010 Fair Book cover. A high school graduate, Palughi is continuing his education at theCollegeofNew Jersey, majoring in graphic design. He was presented a framed copy of his original design.

Members of the 4-H program who have participated in community service projects, Bridget Bendock, Dakota Greenwood and Kelly Oliver were all presented bicycles by Susquehanna County Penn State Extension.

Fair President Michael Kowalewski  introduced the 2010 and 2011 scholarship winner as follows: 2010- David Corbin, Carol Small, and Leanne Ferenczi; 2011- Eric Giangrieco, Rebecca Harris, Cassandra Summers, Angela Cosner and Daisy Matulevich.

The board president urged any young person who had any connection with the fair to apply for a scholarship. This is anyone who has worked at the fair, was an exhibitor or served as a volunteer. Applications are available at the Fair Office on the grounds.

A program of worship through music was enjoyed following the opening program.
