The Montrose school board hired a new Spanish teacher, filled a number of long-term substitute positions, and added several staff members at its regular meeting Monday (Aug. 13).
The board approved the employment of Bridget E. Merritt as a full-time Spanish teacher at the high school at a salary of $43,219.00.
The following were hired as long-term substitute elementary teachers, at the rate of $147.22 per day with no additional benefits:
*Nicole Russell, kindergarten atLathropStreetElementary School;
*Holly Johnson, fourth grade atChoconutValleyElementary School;
*Eric Lloyd, fourth grade atLathrop Streetfor the first semester; and
*Stephanie Gow, second grade atLathrop Streetthrough Nov. 2.
Petrina Gregory was appointed as special education department chairperson at the high school at the rate of $673.66.
The board accepted two coach resignations, effective immediately: Sami Bourizk as assistant football coach and Kelly Robinson as wrestling cheerleading adviser.
The following coaches were appointed for the fall sports season: Mary Potter as assistant girls’ tennis coach at a salary of $2,250; and Heather Griffiths as junior high field hockey coach at a salary of $1,750.
The board approved the following policies as submitted: extracurricular activities 122, Interscholastic Athletics 123, Concussion Management, Student Records 216, and Supplemental Discipline Records 216.
At the beginning of the meeting, Superintendent Michael F. Ognosky featured Montrose senior and Boy Scout Gary Parks for his Eagle Scout project, building benches for the administration building foyer and for the playing fields outside the high school.
The archery team was also honored.
The school board’s next meetings are scheduled for Monday, Sept. 10 at7 p.m.
Ognosky said that the regular business meeting will be held after the work session. The meeting will begin with the “Good Things Are Happening” feature, then administrative reports will be given, followed by the remainder of the work session. The regular business meeting will then be conducted.
Three bus routes have been dropped, Rickie Claper said during the work session. The buildings have been readied for the start of school, and Principal Greg Adams said that the buildings are starting to buzz, with more teachers showing up to ready their classrooms every day.
