Friends ofSusquehannaCountyheld their Sixth Annual Harvest Festival on Saturday, Sept. 15, at the Colonial Brick Motel grounds in Hallstead.
The funds raised at this event are used to support numerous charitable organizations throughout the county and scholarships for aSusquehannaCountyhigh school senior.
The non-profit organization has been in existence for 15 years, the first five years it was known as Friends of Barnes Kasson Hospital. During those first five years they raised more than $50,000 used to establish a chapel at the hospital and purchase hospital equipment.
It was in 2002 Friends participated in a matching funds campaign for start-up operations of theUnited WayofSusquehannaCountyand established an endowment with the Community Foundation of Susquehanna County.
Members say they are able to direct funds where they are most needed by individuals or organizations in the county.
Those working to raise the funds so generously distributed by this group of caring Susquehanna County citizens are: Board of Directors, Chairman Alice Deutsch; Vice-Chairman Carol McNamara; Treasurer Suzanne Cobb; Secretary Jackie Waldron; Barbara Hinkley, Eleanor Lempke, Beverly Updyke, Sharon Kinsley and Sandy Llewellyn. Members are Bette Rae Bucci, Mary Lee Dayton, Nancy Jackson, Janeen Kelly, Roberta Reddon, Carol Kowalewski, Christine Mitchell, Kathy Ofsharick, Paulette Rafferty, Mary Jane Reddon, Lucy Stilloe, Michele Suchnick, and Mary Thurston.
