Meteor golfers bumped from playoffs

The Montrose Area golf team took a 7.5-.5 loss from Dunmore in the District II Class AA semifinals held at Stone Hedge Golf Course in Tunkhannock on Wednesday.

For Montrose, it was an unexpected surprise to reach the league title match.

“I was extremely impressed with the way they finished, except for today,” Montrose coach Mike Zuba said. “I know they didn’t play their best golf today. We had a lot of players this year who didn’t have the experience but they came through at the end.”

Individual: John Barone (D) over Codi Benedict, 2 and 1; Kerry Morrison (M) over Joe Bellucci, 3 and 2; John Keating (D) and Dan English split; Mike Weber (D) over Austin Smith, 5 and 4; Tom Occhipinti (D) over Lance Nealy, 5 and 3; Dave Lopatka (D) over Katie Clark, 6 and 5.

Better ball: Barone-Bellucci (D) over Benedict-Morrison, 2 and 1; Keating-Weber (M) over English-Smith, 4 and 3; Occhipinti-Lopatka (D) over Nealy-Clark, 4 and 3.
