Brenden Wahl ran for two touchdowns and passed for another, Brian Tomasetti continued his strong season with two touchdowns and 173 yards rushing and No. 3 Old Forge dominated Montrose, 49-7, on Friday at Old Forge Veterans Memorial Stadium.
“We just tried to work on our stuff, work on execution,” Wahl said. “Work on execution on the offensive end and the defensive end.
“There’s always room for improvement.”
The Blue Devils (1-0, 6-0) controlled both sides of the line of scrimmage for most of the night. Tomasetti and the team’s other running backs easily carved their way through Montrose’s (0-2, 0-6) defense, while Old Forge’s line and linebackers stuffed the Meteors’ offensive attack.
The Blue Devils forced fumbles on two of Montrose’s first three plays, recovering the second to set the offense up with the ball at the Meteors’ 18-yard line.
It took just one play on that drive for Old Forge to find the end zone. Wahl dropped back to pass, but after scrambling around behind solid protection from his offensive line, decided to take off and ran in for the score.
The Blue Devils never looked back.
The team scored touchdowns on each of its first five drives, and added a sixth when Shane Schuback returned an interception 40 yards to the end zone.
Montrose snapped Old Forge’s shutout bid in the fourth quarter, stringing together a 12-play drive that Robert Purdy capped with a 1-yard touchdown run.
